In the city of Rosario, Argentina's third largest, a unique rental contract has been established between a landlord and a tenant, allowing the tenant to pay their rent in Bitcoin.
A recent article in Paginal 12, dated January 11, mentioned that this agreement is a first for Argentina, enabled by legislative changes under the current government.
Under this agreement, the rent is set at the equivalent of $100 in Bitcoin per month, to be transferred via Fiwind, a local cryptocurrency platform.
It's noted that both parties involved are knowledgeable in cryptocurrency usage.
Changes in Argentine rental law and other legal areas have occurred following the election of President Javier Milei in November 2023, during a period of severe inflation.
Diana Mondino, the minister of foreign affairs, international trade and worship, stated in December 2023 that a new decree focused on economic reform would permit Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies under specific conditions.
Furthermore, the government has simplified the process for legalizing cryptocurrency assets, even those with pending tax issues.
A tax regularization scheme has been introduced, where assets declared by the end of March 2024 are taxed at 5%, increasing to 10% in April, and 15% from July until the end of September.
