Solana Joins Forces With Google Cloud

Solana Labs and Google Cloud recently introduced Gameshift, a gaming development API designed to bridge traditional Web2 experiences with Web3 technologies, such as blockchain and digital asset management.

This new toolset was revealed at the 2024 Solana Breakpoint conference during the "Gamer Village" side stage events.

Gameshift represents the next phase in the ongoing collaboration between the two companies and is now accessible via the Google Cloud Marketplace.

According to a Google Cloud blog post, Gameshift offers a comprehensive suite of foundational Web3 services for projects hosted within the cloud ecosystem.

The API is primarily targeted at developers working on traditional games who wish to incorporate Web3 elements like non-fungible tokens (NFTs) or other digital assets into their games.

It simplifies the process of securely integrating blockchain-based services from one platform to another.

Jack Buser, Google Cloud’s Director for Games, explained that the challenge lies in integrating nascent Web3 technologies into established industries step by step:

“Game studios have recently been considering Web3 for new approaches to growth and development but are often discouraged by the seeming complexity of the technology and the Web3 community.

Game studios are already overburdened and need solutions like GameShift that provide simplified technical and cultural interfaces to Web3.”

It has become a tradition for Google Cloud and Solana Labs to unveil new integrations at the annual Solana Breakpoint event as part of their extended partnership.

As reported by Cointelegraph in 2022, the firms announced that Google Cloud had become a node validator for the Solana blockchain during that year’s conference.

The 2024 event mirrored the previous year’s announcements with more news from Google Cloud about Web3 API advancements and Solana unveiling the latest model of its blockchain-enabled smartphone, echoing similar announcements made at the 2022 event.
