11 Dec, 2023 ● Crypto News
In association with blockchain company Modex, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), which oversees international football competitions, will introduce its own nonfungible token (NFT) collection prior to the 2023 Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
An exclusive set of 100 NFTs will launch on December 15 and offer the opportunity to win tickets to the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, according to the Dec. 11 announcement.
Moreover, this month, 900 more digital collectibles featuring iconic moments from the competition and digital replicas of memorabilia will be released on the Polygon network and OpenSea.
According to FIFA:
“Scheduled to kick off in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on December 12, the FIFA Club World Cup brings together seven of the world’s greatest football teams. The champions of FIFA’s six confederations are all participating."
FIFA+ Collect, the platform bearing FIFA's name, will host the NFT collection. Algorand powers the NFT platform, which debuted in September 2022.
According to Modex CEO Francesco Abbate, "digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love. We're honored to support FIFA in realizing this goal."
With 909,255 digital collectibles minted and 16,448 holders, the FIFA+ Collect platform has facilitated 11 NFT drops since its launch.
The primary and secondary NFT markets on the platform have seen trading volume of $2.4 million.
FIFA+ Collect Info asserts that "Mint Volume can be misleading as it cannot distinguish the packs obtained for free in challenges from the packs purchased with USDC."
