El Salvador Launches Bitcoin Education Program
22 Aug, 2024 ● Coin news
El Salvador’s National Bitcoin Office (ONBTC) will provide Bitcoin training and certification to 80,000 government employees.
The Bitcoin-supportive Central American country has initiated a training program aimed at educating public servants on the strategic management and public policies concerning Bitcoin.
The training, a 160-hour virtual and asynchronous course titled Certification in Public Administration 1, is organized into seven modules.
Each module covers various concepts, laws, skills, and management practices related to Bitcoin's use as legal tender.
Stacy Herbert, the director of ONBTC, anticipates that educating civil servants will have a “compounding effect” on El Salvador’s Bitcoin-centered economy.
With this belief, she intends to introduce additional educational initiatives. She stated:
“These education projects are very low time preference commitments to the long-term success of El Salvador and its Bitcoin (and tech) policy.”
The certification program is conducted by the Higher School of Innovation in Public Administration (ESIAP), which was inaugurated by President Nayib Bukele in August 2021.
According to ONBTC, also referred to as “The Bitcoin Office,” the curriculum is specifically designed “to strengthen the standard of excellence in governance and public administration in El Salvador.”
El Salvador’s financial success with Bitcoin adoption has drawn the interest of other countries facing hyperinflation.
In May, the Argentine government began collaborating with El Salvador to learn from its Bitcoin adoption experience and other cryptocurrency activities.
Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV) engaged with El Salvador’s National Commission of Digital Assets (CNAD) to discuss crypto adoption and regulation in both nations.
During this meeting, CNV President Silva remarked:
“We want to strengthen ties with the Republic of El Salvador, and therefore, we are going to explore the possibility of signing collaboration agreements with them.”
Additionally, Argentina recently implemented registration requirements for crypto firms in April and has been increasingly involved in cryptocurrency, particularly since the Bitcoin-supportive politician Javier Milei assumed the presidency in late 2023.
