Cardano Founder Will Meet Argentina President

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is set to meet Argentina’s President Javier Milei in October to discuss the country's cryptocurrency economy.
Hoskinson is attending Tech Forum Argentina, where he will talk about the future of blockchain in a conversation scheduled with the president on Oct. 19, as he revealed in an interview with Cointelegraph.
In the upcoming discussion, Hoskinson plans to explore blockchain’s potential to reshape global economic, political, and social systems.
He also intends to address Argentina’s technological values and needs, the possibility of creating a central bank digital currency (CBDC), and the country’s partnerships to help rebuild the economy.
Hoskinson mentioned that he and Milei’s administration have had multiple discussions and that they are planning to meet on the 19th or sometime around that date.
The discussions so far have focused on the future of blockchain. He clarified that the meeting wouldn’t be limited to Cardano but would cover a wide range of technologies.
In the Cointelegraph interview, Hoskinson referred to Milei as an “Austrian” and described him as an “actual philosophical Austrian.”
He suggested that Milei’s views align with some of the principles of cryptocurrency, noting that the president aims to eliminate government-controlled money and supports private institutions and free markets.
Hoskinson stated that Milei’s beliefs are in line with those of Ludwig von Mises and Murray Rothbard, which makes him more aligned with the ethos of the crypto industry.
This upcoming meeting with President Milei builds on Cardano’s strong ties and presence in Argentina.
The country has been very welcoming to Cardano, with numerous collaborations taking place. In June 2024, the Cardano Foundation signed another partnership to promote local blockchain adoption in Argentina.
Hoskinson also noted that Argentina has played a significant role in Cardano’s development, with AtixLabs, one of the project's early development companies, originating from Argentina.
He emphasized that Cardano has deep roots in the country and pointed out that Bitcoin has a long history there as well.
He mentioned that BitPay, one of the first major crypto companies, developed its Copay wallet in Argentina around 2012.
Milei, a known advocate of cryptocurrencies, has also publicly supported Cardano, as seen in his May 2024 repost of a Cardano-themed post by Dario Epstein on his X page.
He confirmed his participation in the Tech Forum Argentina through an X repost on Sept. 17.
This news comes as the Cardano blockchain moves closer to entering Voltaire, the final phase of its roadmap focused on decentralized governance.
On Sept. 1, Cardano underwent Chang, the first hard fork of the Voltaire era, introducing community-led governance through onchain consensus.
The onchain voting mechanisms in the Voltaire era will be ratified by Cardano (ADA) holders in the final Cardano Constitution, expected to be completed and ratified in December.
While Hoskinson personally supports a deflationary monetary policy and opposes the idea of burning tokens under any circumstances, he encourages community debate.
He highlighted that the purpose of onchain governance is to foster discussion, allowing for the exploration of a variety of ideas—both radical and reasonable—and ultimately arriving at beneficial decisions.
